Save Kempty Falls
Remember Kempty Falls?
If you ever visited Mussoorie, you will remember Kempty Falls. It is
held up as a major
attraction of Mussoorie. The first
hit on Google there extols it as the 'biggest attraction' of
Mussorie, with water cascading down from an altitude of 4,500 feet
and splitting further into five cascades... the water falls from a
height of 40 feet giving the appearance of water jumping and playing
on the rocks before falling down.

It does have beautiful, clean water of a most amazing colour...

Recent changes
| Yesterday (28 April 2002), I was there, after a gap of a few
years. We were told by the locals that there is a 'nice new view' of
the falls. This involved going down this walkway --
The walkway seems to be a prime real estate opportunity - it is
teeming with shops. And, the shops seem to be a prime advertising
opportunity.
Here you see one shop - a photo studio which will take pictures of you
in front of Kempty Falls.
And here you see another shop in this little mall.
So they have constructed an entire walkway - mall in the hillside --
Leading you on to this coup de grace - a little swimming pool
ringed by shops at the bottom! Here is the first glimpse of the horror --
Slightly beyond this Coke horror lies a Pepsi horror - a waterpark
where you can play with the kids.
In summary
This is what they have done -- built a grotesque walkway (which you
see here on the right), and then built this junk at the bottom, all
emblazoned with Coke and Pepsi. The two corporations should be ashamed
of themselves for this tastelessness!
Here you see a closeup of only the junk at the bottom.
And finally, here is a picture of the walkway only (unfortunately it
is not too clear; I had the sun in my face).

Take the hills back
We need to set about taking Kempty Falls back to it's original beauty.
